Beware of Cancer Mesothelioma - Hazards of Asbestos Roofs !

Mesothelioma is rare malignant form of cancer. Cells found in the mesothelium, a protective sac that cover most of the organs. Most people who develop mesothelioma are the people who work or on activities are often affected by exposure to asbestos in which they unknowingly inhaled asbestos particles.

1. What is Mesothelium?
The mesothelium is a membrane that covers and protects most of the organs. Consisting of two layers of cells; one layer that surrounds organs and other forms of sac around it. The mesotheliumproduces a lubricating fluid released between these layers, allowing moving organs (such as the beating heart and the lungs inflate) to glide easily against adjacent structure.
The mesothelium has different names, depending on the location in the body. The peritoneum is themesothelial tissue that covers most organs in the abdominal cavity. Pleura is the membrane that surrounds the lungs and lines the chest cavity wall. The pericardium covers and protects the heart.Mesothelial tissue surrounding the internal male reproductive organs is called the tunica vaginalis testis. while the tunica serosa uteri covers the internal reproductive organs of women.

2. What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma (cancer of the mesothelium) is a disease in which cells of the mesothelium become abnormal and divide without control or order. This cancer invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. Cancer cells can also metastasize (spread) from the original host to the rest of the body. Most cases of Mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum.

3. How Often Mesothelioma Cancer?
Although the incidence rate increased in the last 20 years, Mesothelioma is still a relatively rare cancer. About 2000 cases of Mesothelioma diagnosed in the United States each year.Mesothelioma more common in men than in women. But this Mesothelioma Cancer can arise both men and women at any age.

4. What Factors Increase the Risk of Cancer Affected by Mesothelioma?
A person who works or activities often exposed to asbestos exposure is a major risk factor triggerMesothelioma. In a research now suggests, someone who has a history of asbestos exposure in the workplaces is reported about 70 to 80 percent of all cases. However, there are also cases ofmesothelioma were reported in some individuals not because of direct exposure to asbestos.
Asbestos is the name of a type of naturally occurring, mineral that has a mass of strong, flexible fibers that can be separated into thin threads and woven. Asbestos has been widely used in industrial product, including cement, brake linings, roof houses or school buildings, flooring products, textiles, and insulation. If tiny asbestos particles float in the air, (especially during the production process of products),which may be inhaled or swallowed, and can cause serious health problems. In addition to mesothelioma, the high exposure to asbestos may increase the risk of lung cancer, asbestosis (a disease, non-cancerous chronic lung), and other cancers, such as the throat and kidneys.
Smoking did not appear to increase the risk of mesothelioma. However, the combination of smoking and asbestos exposure significantly increase a person's risk of developing cancer of the airways in the lungs.
